Nelly Furtado

The Canadian singer with Portuguese roots surprised with her unique style and an invigorating authenticity at the beginning of the new millennium. She was a new female artist in the charts, a singer songwriter that convinces with charisma, charm, talent and naturalness. She sang her way into her fans hearts wearing almost no Make Up, her favorite Jeans and T-shirt on stage. In 2002, she won the Grammy for her song “I’m Like A Bird”. Her international break through was accomplished.

Her five studio albums and her singles conquered the international charts in no time. Her album “Loose” broke numerous records: for multiple weeks the album and the single were on top of the German single, album, airplay and download charts. The album, like almost no other in this decade in Germany, broke the one million mark and earned the Universal-Artist* an ECHO in the category “Most Successful Solo Artist Of The Year” and the throne of the Airplay Charts as the “Most Played Solo Artist” in 2007. The album was in the Media Control Charts for over a year and sold over seven million copies worldwide. Her tremendous success included a completely sold out tour.    

Nelly Furtado was the only artist in North America who managed to obtain the number one spot in the Billboard Latin Hot 100 Charts with a song sung in Spanish. Her hit “Forca” was the official song for the European soccer championship in Portugal in 2004. At the finale she was able to perform the song in front of 153 million viewers worldwide.
